More instant replay gets shelved for 12

When Major League Baseball wants to add another layer of playoffs, it moves like Rickey Henderson in his prime.

When it comes to adding more instant replay, the league is more like Bengie Molina.

MLB wanted to increase the umpires' ability to call for video reviews of trapped balls, fair-foul rulings down the lines and fan interference. But it won't come in 2012.

"We weren't able to come up with an acceptable set of agreements between the three parties (league, players and umpires)," MLB executive vice president for labor relations Rob Manfred said to the Associated Press on Tuesday. "We hope we'll be able to do it in time for the 2013 season."

So why so slow, compared to the playoffs? Let's just say that adding cameras doesn't add to the league's accounting ledgers.

Umpires also were concerned that there weren't enough cameras in some ballparks, and how the system (challenges, official scorer, etc.) might work.
