Couple embarks on a 152day road trip through the minors

People all over the country do ballpark pilgrimages every year. There's even a website dedicated to the pastime within a pastime.

What Matt and Carolyn LaWell are doing this summer is going several steps beyond. Writers by trade, they've embarked on a 152-day, 26,000-mile trek to see 120 minor league baseball teams play in 38 states. They've scrimped and saved for the trip and have no high-priced jobs to fall back on. They'll live out of their Honda Element SUV and write, tweet, take photos and video and blog about their journey on their entertaining website.

Their theme: "We want to tell one chapter of the story of America. This is about more than baseball. This is about us. All of us."

They started their journey at Double-A Jacksonville last week and are careening through Florida watching Florida State League games this week.

"If you'd asked me last week I think I probably would have said more about the dreams of the 50 or so guys in the two dugouts. And I think I still see that," Matt said to the Florida Times-Union. "But the first thing I would probably see is lots and lots of stories. You can't tell all of them."

But there will certainly be a lot of them.
