AllStar Game rosters have a record five rookies

This could be an anomaly, or it could be that this crop is the best bunch of rookies we've seen in a long time.

Five of them will be available to play in the All-Star Game on Tuesday:

Mike Trout: The Angels center fielder is the early leader to be AL Rookie of the Year, leading the league in hitting. He could be a bigger star than Albert Pujols this year and beyond.

Yu Darvish: Elected by the fans for the final All-Star spot, the Japanese righty with a devastating array of pitches won 10 games in the first half for the Rangers. Since he's a Japanese veteran, you've got to give the early favorite role to Trout.

Ryan Cook: Oakland needed an All-Star, and Cook is the latest in Billy Beane's resume of great closer finds.

Wade Miley: If you live outside of Arizona and knew who he was before the season, take a bow. Ian Kennedy still has to be considered the Diamondbacks' ace, but he's not far behind.

Bryce Harper: Statistically he's shown probably not quite ready to be an All-Star (.282, 8 HR), but there's no doubt that fans want to see him compete against the best. He was named as an injury replacement for Giancarlo Stanton. (And the Marlins suddenly don't have an All-Star.)

Too bad there can only be two Rookies of the Year.
